Steel Panel CORTEN
A oxidation which protects the panel
The coil is galvanised with zinc
coating mass on both sides; a nominal average coating is 175-275 g/ m2. Zinc is higher than iron in the galvanic series of the metals. Therefore, when the iron and zinc come into contact with an electrolytic conductive medium, a corrosion cell is formed in which zinc is the anode and iron is the cathode; this implies that the zinc will oxidise while the iron remains protected.
The zinc coating cathodically protects the iron and steel, avoiding a continual corrosion. At first, the panel will present a bright appearance, which over time will turn dull and brownish.
